These stories are wonderful! The characters of the children are clever and independent and the stories are relatable while holding believable mystery. Children from all over the world will love reading these (and their parents won’t mind coming along for the ride).” Amazon Customer (5 stars)

“Famous three from India
I am an adult and enjoyed reading the stories. I am sure that children will enjoy the way that young detectives, Gayatri, Bela and Monty tackle cases.” Viraj Govind Mahatme (5 stars)

– “A superb read.
I’m Kartik, a 13 yr old avid reader. Detective Gayatri Investigates is a a great book with a lot of suspense. The author builds up a feeling of thrill. One keeps guessing about the culprit till the very end of the story. She drops a few subtle hints during the story which only veteran readers can catch. The language is just right and enhances the readers vocabulary. The illustrations by the young artist are very neat and expressive. Fantastic work ….looking fwd to more cases being solved by Ms Kaul and friends.” – Amazon Customer (5 stars)

“A truly engrossing read
This book is an essential primer to introduce children to the world of adventure. In fact, it is equally relevant to us adults. It can rekindle our childlike imagination and curiosity that we often lose in the hustle and bustle of adult life.
Kudos to the authors! I don’t have children but, when I do, this is a book I’ll want them to read! :-)” – Piyush Kumar (5 stars)

An excellent read
This book is a perfect way to introduce your kids to the genre of detective books, especially those by Enid Blyton. The characters are relatable and so are the premises of the various mysteries. The illustrations are spot on too..” – Amazon Customer (5 stars)

From amazon:

– “For a two day road trip, I borrowed this delightful little book from my 10 year old daughter and enjoyed this heart warming read.
Posh, my little one is a Sally Bollywood fan and has her own little notebook to jot down ‘clues, when playing ‘detective. So when the book reco came I didn’t have to think twice.
Gayatri (Gattu) and her friends (‘Junior detective team’) solve four mysteries in this book. The first story The Mystery at Magarpuram introduces the adventurous bunch.
All four stories are in different settings, the school/home characters & dialogues are authentic and kids will identify with them happily! The adults are portrayed without stereotyping, there are no nauseously sweet or offensively villainous characters. The short mysteries offer children a chance to indulge in guess work. The language is brilliant, neither too simple nor too daunting for the target audience, with the author throwing in some difficult words for the children to look up while reading, yet not needing to constantly run for the dictionary.
Illustrations by Sonal Goyal are superb.
My little one in pigtails loved it. Go for it if you have a 7-10 year old.” – Venkatesh S. (4.5 stars)

“Shivani Adib’s debut book, ‘Detective Gayatri Series’ is a collection of four mysteries. Gayatri (12) dubbed ‘junior detective’ of Gyanpur. She and her friends Monty and Bela, unravel innocent, child-appropriate mysteries.
Shivani is a mean storyteller, with each of the characters given a distinct, well-etched out, authentic, and consistent personality.
The dialogues are engaging and make the book with few pictures come alive. It can be easily rendered into an audiobook or enacted as a school play.
A readable book, laced with good-natured humour, the combination of subtle and broad hints give the reader a sense of partnering with the young detectives in solving the mystery.
Shivani uses impeccable ‘textbook English’ with many ‘big words’ which will push the young reader to seek help with comprehension. Great read along book to young children and may get older children to use of the dictionary, which is great!” – Deepa Soman (5 stars)

“IT WAS AN INTERESTING BOOK. I DID NOT WANT TO PUT IT DOWN TILL I REACHED THE LAST PAGE. HAD TO LOOK UP THE DICTIONARY ON DIFFICULT WORDS. I’VE ALREADY READ IT SIX TIMES .I REALLY LIKED IT AND THE CHARACTER I LIKED BEST WAS GAYATRI BECAUSE SHE DID MOST OF THE THINKING. —written by my 6 yr old son Kartik Kak A wonderfully written book. What I liked most about the book was the simplicity of the language, the indian setting , the fact that the story revolves around a ‘girl’ detective and the fun element involved. The little detectives play, go to school and do not miss out on any fun while solving the mysteries. The book creates a feeling of ‘can’t put it down’ even for an occasional reader like me. A must read for all kids and even their parents. ANJALI KAK Mother of Kartik kak” – Amazon Customer (5 stars)

“Detective Gayatri Series is a collection of stories for children. The main protagonist, Gayatri aka Gatti, along with her friends Bela and Monty run through a series of incidents which kindles the curiosity in them. Being led by a headstrong Gatti, who has an undeterred thirst to solve mysteries, the trio sets foot onto a detective journey. As we move on from one story to the other, the thrill builds up with amazing plots and nail-biting suspense. Without giving away spoliers, I would like to list out my feedback in bullet points.
My review in pointers:
• The casual conversations between the kids was pleasant and refreshing to read with a hint of humour thrown in good measure
• By emphasizing on Bela’s food habits, the author passes a message to kids on the importance of eating right
• Speaking of food, the description of food had me drooling all along
• The way the transition happens from one plot to another had a natural flow which keeps the reader hooked and doesn’t establish a disconnect
• I liked the emphasis on kids finishing their homework before setting out for their recreational activities
• While Gatti was brilliant in relating bits and pieces and solving the puzzles, I would have appreciated it more had Bela and Monty participated in the discussions that drove to deductions. Unlike in the ‘Case of the Stolen Watch’ story, rest of stories saw Gatti solely deciphering the case. It does justify the title of the book, but it’s just my opinion
• The author leaves no room for loopholes for one to question how it is possible for three young kids to solve mysteries. As you get engrossed in the book, you will see for yourself
• The prowess with which the book has been conceived doesn’t make one believe that it is Shivani Adib’s first book. I would wish she continues this series and also writes many more” – Seema Kamath (5 stars)

“What an amazing , down memory lane journey reading the 4 short stories from Detective Gayatri Series. For me who grew up reading mystery books as a kid, what a treat it was to read sleuthing stories set in India with Indian flavours. Some great elements that I truly appreciated in this book and look forward to Shivani’s next treat.
1) The language is flawless and it was great to see my 9 year old kid go for the dictionary. We both took turns reading aloud two of the stories and felt part of the team solving the mystery along with the 3 characters.
2) The description of the food items were so yummy and refreshing
3) The friendship between Gatti, Monty and Bells is sweet. I somewhere felt Gatti should be more reasonable and involve her friends more in the investigations in the upcoming adventures. Overall a great Debut and wish the writer continued success.” – Shyamala (4 stars)

“Thank you Shivani aunty for the wonderful book! The detective Gayatri series was amazing and very interesting. I love detective stories a lot! Aunty your stories are the best! I laughed at your marvellous jokes heartily. The mystery of the missing chimpanzee was the best of all. Gayatri and her detective friends are quick and accurate. I love their spirit. I have never read a book so adventurous and energetic. I felt like I am the detective while exploring the city of Gyanpur and the ancient town of Magarpuram. I was so keen and curious to read on. One couldn’t take their eyes off your book to have a break. The yummy biriyani which Bela and Gayatri had in Monty’s house was in my stomach when I was reading the book. The book was very awesome and thank you once again!” – by Ashwin (9yrs), posted by Gayathiri A. (5 stars)

“Detective Gayatri Series by Shivani Adib – Wonderful read…apt language for 10+ kids (may be 8+ I would say)…Loved the bonding between the trio – Gatti, Monty and Bells…The stories are well crafted that made me not leave the book until I finished the story….Kids would definitely learn new words that I also had to look up, this made it even more interesting…The Indian setting made me relate to all characters..All in all a BIG THUMBS UP to Shivani Adib…waiting for more to come….” – Rakhi (5 stars)

“Fantastic and thrilling Reading. Keeps one occupied till the end of the story. Eagerly Looking forward for the next one” – Sandeep (5 stars)

One amazon.ca review:

Strong plots, beautifully written lines evoke the childhood memories of picnics, school, class rooms, libraries and wonderful people. The detective herself seems to be smart and astute. Would love to read more of this series soon. Unbeatable value for money with 4 short stories for a dollar or so each! Will post after completing the next adventure of the stolen watch (last adventure).” – Manoj Kamath (5 stars)

From goodreads:

“A book that lives up to its back-cover blurb! Great fun, and even more that the protagonist is a girl! Great to gift to young girls (and boys!). Hope to see more from this new writer.” – Bharati (5 stars)

“So, Detective Gayatri Series by Shivani Adib is the latest book I’ve been perusing, and I must congratulate this lady for getting out a brilliant first book. There are many, many things that appealed to me instantly:
1. The main protagonist, Gatti, is a girl. About time we have more positive female role models
2. It’s set in India- so it’s instantly more relatable to kids. So wonderful when a well- written book in simple, clean English is published for young readers.
3. And this one’s a biggie for me- it avoids slang. Hurrah!
4. It brings back my sense of adventure and wonder (a bit like how Enid Blyton does)One thing I’d like to point out though – and this one’s for the publishers, Mango Books- why make this 10+? it’s a series of short stories which can interest younger readers too. I’d say it’s more 8+, considering kids these days devour longer novels by 10. Yes, there might be some words that younger kids might struggle with, but nothing a dictionary or asking mum won’t solve. I hope Shivani intends to bring out a lot more books – I’d definitely like to see what Gatti and Monty and Bells get upto next (and can Monty and Bells have more to do next time, please?)” – Rajni Arun Kumar (4 stars)

“A suggested read for the young kids out there!” – Vishal Anand (4 stars)
